TOLEDO, Ohio – Ohio is cracking down again on exotic animals, telling owners who don’t yet have a permit to put their tigers, snakes and monkeys under quarantine.
The state sent out the orders this week to a half-dozen exotic animal owners who have failed to get a permit under a law that took effect at the beginning of 2014.
Ohio’s agriculture department says the owners aren’t allowed to move or sell the animals until it decides what should happen to the animals.
The state earlier this year seized 11 animals from a sanctuary near Toledo after denying the owner a permit.
Ohio has been tightening regulations on people who own animals typically found in a zoo ever since a suicidal man in eastern Ohio released dozens of his animals in 2011.
